A Web site posted by a self-proclaimed pedophile that included pictures of Elizabeth Smart has her father upset.
Ed Smart said he learned of the situation Monday after a local television station contacted him about a Web site run by a man named Lindsay Ashford.
On the Web page, Ashford calls himself a "lover of little girls" but claims that there is a difference between a pedophile and a child molester. He passes off pedophilia as simply "sexual orientation."
The Web site also includes pictures of missing or abducted children, including Smart.
Ed Smart said he was very angry when he learned of the site.
"I just couldn't believe someone would try to come up with some kind of rationale to justify their actions," he said. "I just think it's ridiculous."
In fact, Smart said the only reason Ashford and his Web site are worth mentioning at all is to warn parents.
"The bottom line to me is he doesn't deserve any attention. I feel too much attention is already being given to him," he said. "But the public needs to realize there are people like that out there. Kids need to be aware of what they can do to reduce the risk they put themselves in.
"I'm not trying to say children need to be shoved into adulthood. But if they know how to be safe and learn some simple things they can possibly avoid a lot of the problems," Smart said.
Smart said there isn't much he can do about the Web site. He said he is investigating whether any copyright laws were violated with the picture being used.
But overall, "The best thing to happen is for (Ashford) to be ignored," he said.

There's something fishy about this case and there has been since the start. I noticed odd things about the demeanor of the Smarts at the very beginning that suggested there was more going on than was being shared. As I stated before it is not a normal thing for people to invite homeless derelicts into the same space occupied by their own innocent children. The fact that Mitchel knew exactly where to find Elizabeth is compelling.
I am also bothered by the fact that Mitchel and Barzee sat in jail for five years awaiting trial. What happend to their right to a speedy trial? What kind of deals have been brokered in the meantime? What's being covered up here? And don't bother raising the red herring of psychological issues because it is highly unlikely that both defendants are equally incompetent. It appears that the facade of mental icompetence was being used here to mask the real reasons for the unusually long pre trial incarceration. It looks to me like this case has been orchestrated to protect Elizabeth Smart's reputation and the conduct of Smart's parents.
